P0113 Ford F350 -Symptoms

Ford F350 Code P0113 Diagnosis

P0113 is an OBDII fault code that occurs when the Ford F350′The Ford F350’s engine management computer detects that there is a problem with the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, specifically that there is a High entry Problem with it.

P0113: IAT Sensor – High Input Problem

The IAT sensor is responsible for measuring the temperature and density of the air to achieve the optimal mixture of air and fuel in any condition.

P0113 is specifically triggered when the F350’s computer sees a voltage signal of 4.91 volts for more than half a second at the intake air temperature sensor. If there are irregularities in the voltage, it will not trigger P0113, it is just due to excess voltage.

Ford F350 P0113 Symptoms

There may be symptoms associated with P0113. Depending on the time of year, IAT sensor problems can be a real problem. When it’s cold outside, it can be harder for your F350’s engine to start. This is due to a scarcity condition that is more noticeable when the air temperature is lower.

These are the most common symptoms of P0113/IAT problems:

  • Engine service soon– Often, the only noticeable symptom of P0113 is going to be the service engine soon light.
  • Sudden starts– The engine may have difficulty starting due to the IAT problem creating a leaner air-fuel mixture. As stated above, this problem will only be magnified when it is cold outside, as the engine requires more choke to start.
  • Scarcity condition– As already said, the engine will run lean with P0113. It is not a good idea to drive for a long time with a poorly running engine. We recommend that you have it repaired as soon as possible. However, once the engine warms up, it shouldn’t leave you stranded.
  • Reduced fuel consumption– If the engine runs on little fuel, it will not produce the optimal power for good fuel economy.

Here is a very helpful YouTube video that has a lot of good information to help diagnose P0113.

When most people see this fault code, they replace the IAT sensor immediately. It is usually a mistake to replace the sensor immediately, often it will be a wiring problem.

It’s a good idea to inspect the wiring around the sensor, and make sure there are no obvious signs of damage, or that it is even plugged in. Then use a multimeter to make sure it’s getting the proper voltage. A good scan tool can tell you a lot about what exactly is going on in your engine that is causing P0113.

If you’ve looked at the harness and there doesn’t seem to be any discernible problem, chances are the IAT sensor needs to be replaced.

Here are some of the most common causes of P0113, presented (sort of) in order from most to least likely:

Although P0113 is not going to leave you stranded on the shoulder, it is important that you do not ignore it. If you let your Ford F350 run on low power for too long, it will develop other problems with the engine. Good luck repairing your vehicle.
