P0118 It is a common OBDII fault code. It is a general code, which means that it will have the same meaning for the Lincoln LS like any other vehicle.

The sensor itself

After thoroughly evaluating the wiring harness, it would be time to take a look at the sensor itself. It works by receiving a 5-volt signal from the computer and the ground. Voltage drops as it heats up. If you are not getting 5 volts, re-inspect the wiring harness.

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the signal that comes out of it as the engine warms up. If it remains the same, then the sensor is not working properly.

Replacing the sensor directly is not a big bet. They are very affordable.

Other causes

There may be other causes of P0118 on your LS. Although normally they will not be so frequent. A faulty PCM can cause the code to activate.

Engine coolant can cause the code to be thrown if it corrodes enough. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you can’t remember the last time the coolant was changed, it may be worth trying to change it and see if you have any luck.
